[ jEdit-users ] jEdit Updater Plugin Update jEdit from 5.2 pre1 to 05.03.99.00

Gary_Gabriel
Hi List,

I wanted to update jEdit with the Updater Plugin. I tried options
"Choose branch" and "Default branch". The update failed with this error

"Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile
C:\Users\Gary_Gabriel_Dev\AppData\Roaming\jEdit\plugins\updater.UpdaterPlugin\jeditInstall.jar".

I checked Windows 8.1 permissions for the directory and they should be
ok. The updater log entry follows at the end.  Windows 8.1 x86 64-bit
running Java 1.8_25. I repeated the update and it returned the same
error each time.

I tried manually installing the update and it returned the same error.
The installation command taken from the plugin was: "java -jar
C:\Users\Gary_Gabriel_Dev\AppData\Roaming\jEdit\plugins\updater.UpdaterPlugin\jeditInstall.jar
auto "C:\Program Files\jEdit". I ran it as admin from Windows command
with jEdit closed.

What else can I try?

Thanks for your help- Gary Gabriel

If you go to the actual site with a web browser, you can see if the latest daily build was successful.
Sometimes, the build server fails to upload an updated .JAR to the FTP server, because the build server is on a VPN and refuses connections from the FTP server.

At some point, we need to redo the way the build server sends files out. Until then, you can look at the actual site:
http://www.tellurianring.com/projects/jedit-daily/index.php?dir=jEdit%2F

And find the latest folder with a .jar file and download it manually. If the most recent one is empty, that's why updater plugin fails.

Hi Alan,

Nice to hear from you, thanks for the information.

I checked on the files in the latest (download) folder. There were files
in it with the data:

Directory Listing of /projects/jedit-daily/jEdit/2016-08-09
tellurianring /projects/jedit-daily
     -
/jedit-daily/jEdit/2016-08-09_09-17-12/jedit5.3.1-dist-win-finish.tar.bz2
3258 kbyte
     - /jedit-daily/jEdit/2016-08-09_09-17-12/jedit5.3.1install.jar 3291
kbyte

The file "jeditInstall.jar" downloaded by the Updater plugin only has
386 bytes.

Maybe my Google Fu is weak, Googling for "update jedit", "upgrade jedit"
or "update/ upgrade jedit manually" did not net any information.
- What exactly should be downloaded?
- What is the manual jedit update procedure? Or- where do I find the
directions on the net?

Thanks for the prompt, definitive help- Gary Gabriel

Thanks this works and installs jedit5.3pre1. However the jEdit launcher
does not overwrite the previous jedit5.2pre1 installation. That means it
will only load the jedit5.2pre1 installation, not the new update. Maybe
I did something wrong, so I deleted the jedit5.3pre1 and started over
again. The second time I made sure that the jEditLauncher was checked in
the installer.

The result was the same. The Windows 8.1 jEditLaucher launches the
previous jedit5.2pre1 installation.

What needs to be done to correct the installation?

Thanks for your time and expertise- Gary Gabriel

In reply to this post by Gary_Gabriel
you need to find out where the current installation is and supply the same directory for the installer to install to.
