[ jEdit-users ] Drag & Drop of files no longer working

Jim Byrnes-4
I am using Ubuntu 14.04, jEdit 5.1.0, java 1.8.0_101

In a earlier email I mentioned I could not drag & drop files from the
spaceFM filemanager to jEdit but I could from Nemo. As of today Nemo no
longer works either.

By not working I mean that when I drop a file on jEdit it does not open.

I don't know if this list accepts attachments or not. The relevant part
of the activity log is some 300 lines long, so I will just post the
first 10 lines and the last 10 line now.  If you need to see the entire
log I can attach it if possible or put it on paste bin.

Try renaming your .jedit/perspective.xml file to .jedit/perspective.xml.save, and then repeat the test.  It could be that jEdit just does not like the state of your current perspective.

Re: [ jEdit-users ] Drag & Drop of files no longer working

F Weller
In reply to this post by Jim Byrnes-4
I'm glad to hear the drag-and-drop is working better.

I want to add that the technique of removing or renaming "perspective.xml" generally applies when jEdit has problems starting, even independently of drag-and-drop.  For example, I have had rare cases in which jEdit was taking a very...long...time to start.  I mean, after three or four minutes, it still had not completed startup, and so I killed jEdit instead of waiting.  I can't remember the exact details, but something in the log suggested jEdit was having trouble initializing certain buffers.  I renamed perspective.xml, and then jEdit started normally.

I think I ended up grabbing an older copy of perspective.xml from ".jedit/settings-backup/".

I shut down my computer last
night, when I booted up this morning and
opened jEdit I could drag & drop ok with
nemo but not spaceFM. So I
 guess for now the
 problem is under control.

 I
will make a note of your suggestion and if I have problems
 again will
 try it.

 Thanks, Jim
